{"id":37378,"date":"2025-07-30T11:23:33","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T11:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rafonline.org\/?post_type=program&#038;p=37378"},"modified":"2026-03-24T10:48:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T10:48:35","slug":"smart-school-mathematics-and-the-art-of-relevant-teaching-for-deep-understanding","status":"publish","type":"program","link":"https:\/\/rafonline.org\/en\/program\/smart-school-mathematics-and-the-art-of-relevant-teaching-for-deep-understanding\/","title":{"rendered":"SMART (School Mathematics and the Art of Relevant Teaching) for Deep Understanding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The InfinitEdu Association developed the SMART program \u2013 \u201cSchool Mathematics and the Art of Relevant Teaching for Deep Understanding\u201d \u2013 based on findings from a 2023 British Council study identifying a need for math training among primary\u2011school teachers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>CONTEXT<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>The 2023 study on mathematics teaching in Romanian primary schools, conducted by the British Council under the coordination of Professor Alf Coles (University of Bristol), found that 34% of teachers had either no professional development or less than six hours in total, and 90% of teachers reported wanting training focused on developing problem\u2011solving skills and addressing students\u2019 individual needs.<br \/>\nApproximately 75% of teachers want training on: mathematics content; math pedagogy; and methods for assessing mathematical knowledge.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>STRATEGY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The program proposes a set of complex interventions to help primary\u2011school teachers teach mathematics in a more engaging and accessible way.<br \/>\nIts core outcome is a teacher training program co\u2011designed by Romanian experts and international experts from the University of Bristol, based on classroom\u2011validated teaching resources developed by InfinitEdu community teachers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tools will be created for researching, evaluating, and improving both the teaching resources and the training program.
